Therapy That Uses Light Boxes

Therapists have been successfully using light boxes to treat patients with certain conditions that are linked to a lack of sunlight. This form of therapy is typically reserved for patients with psychological disorders because the light boxes help them to produce serotonin. It used to be that patients had to go to the office in order to receive treatment from an artificial source, but today there are smaller devices that can be used in the home. When a doctor prescribes this type of therapy, he or she will instruct the patient on how long they should be exposed to the artificial light source on a daily basis. The angle of the light is also important to avoid shining it in your eyes. Using light boxes can be a relaxing form of therapy because users are allowed to sit and read or watch television while absorbing the rays of light.
